TERM: Temporary – 3 month, February 19, 2018 to May 17, 2018
However, there may be possibility of transition into permanent position of Health Manager for the
right candidate.
BACKGROUND OF PACHEEDAHT: The Pacheedaht First Nation has 4 reserves on 174
hectares, 80 km from Victoria. PFN has 280 members, approximately 90 living on reserve. The
Nation shares the region with the small town of Port Renfrew and the area is a popular
destination for outdoor activities, such as hiking trails, exploring beaches, surfing, kayaking and
fishing.
OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Health Manager Assistant is responsible for designing,
implementing, and evaluating mental health and wellness programs for the residents of
Pacheedaht First Nation and for Pacheedaht off –reserve Band members as appropriate.
Programs to include both personal and group services, address health promotion, treatment,
and prevention based services. In addition, where appropriate, the successful candidate will
assist the Health Manager with administration of the Pacheedaht Health program regarding the
following:
 Staffing  Program planning & development
 Budgeting  Funding & proposal writing
 Policies and Procedures  Community Consultation

REQUIREMENTS:
 Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a health related field
 2 plus years working in Health Care programming – experience working in Community
Mental Health, Program Administration and First Nations people preferred
 Ability to assist in designing, implementing and evaluating mental health and wellness
programs and services
 Budgeting and generally accepted accounting principles
 Demonstrated proposal and grant writing
 Ability to support health care service provision in a semi-isolated community with few on-site
resources, and in many types of situations which could include crisis or conflict
 Ability to work in partnership with other health services such as BC Ambulance Service,
Island Health, Sooke Family Resources, FNHA, etc.
 Analytical problem solving and decision making skills
 Effective verbal and written communication skills
 Time management skills
 An understanding of West Coast First Nation culture and practices, and a willingness to
educate and advocate to ensure culturally safe, accessible, and appropriate services.
 Current class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to use own vehicle (with mileage
reimbursement) for work purposes
 Criminal record check

qualifications and skills.
