BACKGROUND OF PACHEEDAHT: The Pacheedaht First Nation has 4 reserves on 174 hectares, 80 km from Victoria. PFN has 280 members, approximately 90 living on reserve. The Nation shares the region with the small town of Port Renfrew and the area is a popular destination for outdoor activities, such as hiking trails, exploring beaches, surfing, kayaking and fishing.

> OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Director of Education, Training and Youth Programs is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating education, training and youth programs; working with staff, community leadership and membership to identify local needs and priorities. This includes supporting education and training for employment opportunities during this time of economic growth and development in the community. The Director must provide leadership, support, development, and evaluation to sub-department staff such as ECE, Education, Youth Programs, and Employment & Training. The Director will be responsible for submitting necessary reports to Chief & Council, Band Administration, AANDC, and other funders, as well as manage the finances of the Education, Training and Youth department in partnership with the Administration Department.


> Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 plus years working in Education or Child and Youth Work related field

> Minimum 2 years management or supervisory experience

> Ability to design, implement and evaluate programs and services focused on education, training and youth > Ability to prepare, interpret and manage a wide range of program budgets

> Ability to manage and support education, training and youth service provision in a semi-isolated community with few on-site resources

> Ability to work in partnership with other education, training and youth services such as School District 62, Post-Secondary Institutes, FNESC, VNFC, CSETS

> Provide up-to-date information, resources and opportunities for students, parents and schools

> Analytical problem solving and decision making skills

> Effective verbal and written communication skills

> Time management skills

> Demonstrated grant and proposal writing skills

> An understanding of West Coast First Nation culture and practices, and a willingness to educate and advocate to ensure culturally safe, accessible, and appropriate services

> Current class 5 Driver’s License and own vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) for work purposes > Criminal record check

Preference will be given to candidates of aboriginal ancestry who possess the necessary qualifications and skills.
