Thursdays 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Saturdays 9:30am – 12:30pm
Substitute Shifts: Tuesdays 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Sundays 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Nature and Scope:
The Head Instructor/Head Lifeguard will assist in supervision of and participate in instruction of aquatic swim classes, lifeguarding and fitness programs. Reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator/Aquatic Team Leader, the Head Instructor/Head Lifeguard will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of the day-to-day activities on the pool deck, the quality of aquatic programs and the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatic facility during their scheduled shift[s].
Ensure programs start and finish on time and provide appropriate setup/take down as required.
Ensure instructors and lifeguards are providing consistent and high quality swim instruction and lifeguarding
Ensure instructors complete and maintain various required documentation
Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining YMCA SAM 2.1 standards.
Direct delivery of programs and classes as appropriate
Adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures
Minimum 1-year relevant leadership experience
Minimum 1-year experience lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons
Experience teaching aquatic fitness is an asset
Excellent customer service skills
Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and a registration software preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Current certification of the following certifications:
o Standard First Aid and CPR-C
o National Lifeguard certification – pool or waterpark option
o YMCA Swim Instructor certification (or equivalent)
o LS Lifesaving Instructor certification
o YMCA or BCRPA Aquatic Fitness an asset and will be required (training will be provided)
A clear Police/RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required
